Shadowbox Game Night Update

A healthy mix of CABS members and non-members alike attended our second Bring Your Own Game Night in conjunction with Shadowbox on July 18. Official attendance for the night was 50 gamers. A couple of new faces were even spotted at last week's CABS meeting!

Many thanks to Brandon Anderson at Shadowbox, and CABS member Kristin Genchi, for their assistance in making the night a success. We are currently talking to Shadowbox about making BYOG Night a regularly scheduled monthly event, and hope to have a schedule to announce soon.

Board of Directors Meeting Aug. 1

The Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at 6pm during the August 1st general meeting. While a formal agenda has not been established, the Board is expected to review the complete proposed charter as amended.

All CABS members are invited to attend the meeting.

Wargames for Sale

CABS President Pete Stein, in cooperation with Librarian Nathan Morse, have removed some of the older, less-played wargames from the library to make room for newer titles. These games will be sold at the World Boardgaming Championship auction, which is a solid market for wargame enthusiasts.

Before going to WBC, the Board would like to extend the opportunity to CABS members to purchase some of these games. All games for sale are listed on Google Docs. All proceeds from the sales of these games (both to members and at WBC) will go into the CABS Library fund for purchase of new games.

All transactions for these games must be completed by August 1. If you would like to purchase any of these games or have any questions regarding condition and components, please contact Pete Stein at

Elder Entertainment Returning To BGF

CABS is proud to announce the return of Elder Entertainment to this year's Buckeye Game Fest.

Based in Louisville, KY, Elder Entertainment specializes in running live-action role-playing events based on the horror universe of H.P Lovecraft, as well as events using the Dread system, which requires players to pull blocks from an increasingly unstable Jenga tower to achieve their goals.

Those of you who attended last year's Buckeye Game Fest likely heard about their highly successful events, including the Sunday morning kid-friendly LARP.

Elder Entertainment has offered events at both Origins and GenCon in previous years. This will be Elder's second appearance at BGF.

Information on times and descriptions of individual events will be made available once they are finalized.

Buckeye Game Fest Event Submission

We are reopening the window for submitting events for Buckeye Game Fest. If you would like to run an event, please contact with a description of your event idea and a time you would like to run the event (between 8am Thursday and 3pm Sunday.)

Call for Buckeye Game Fest Volunteers

Our own convention is right around the corner and it’s time to start calling for volunteers! If you are willing to help man the game cabinets, we’d like to hear from you. You will need to be able to use the computer for check-in & check-out of games, locate/pull/return games and help new convention registrants get badges.

Instead of first-come first serve, we’ll fill the available slots based on people emailing with your preferred time slots in order of desire. We will randomly pull from all the emails that come in, filling the available slots per the requests as best we can until all slots are filled. The cut off to make that first pull will be midnight on July 17. At the following night's meeting on July 18, any remaining slots will be available to whomever signs-up first.

Please provide your full name and email in your request.

You must be a current member to fill a slot. You must be able to use the computer check-in and out procedures. Volunteers will receive CABS cash for the dealers room at an amount to be determined later..

These are the slots available:

  • Thursday: 12-3, 3-6, 6-9 (x2), 9-12
  • Friday: 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 (x2), 6-9 (x2), 9-12 (x2)
  • Saturday: (all slots need two people) 9-12, 12-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12
  • Sunday: 9-12, 12-3

We should have a preliminary schedule of events out shortly. Stay tuned for more information!

Thank you,
Ian Zernechel, CABS Convention Director
