New Conventions Membership Established

At last week's meeting the Board of Directors voted to establish a new conventions-only membership tier. This tier includes the member discount for Origins, as well as admission to Buckeye Game Fest. This membership tier does not include free access to regular CABS meetings, library checkout privileges, or voting rights.

The conventions-only membership tier will be $45 for 2014. Paper and web forms will be updated soon to include this new tier. If you are not currently a CABS member and are interested in signing up for this membership tier, please contact the Board of Directors at

Current CABS members do not need to take any additional action, as the Origins discount and admission to Buckeye Game Fest are already included in your 2014 membership.

Seeking Event Ideas for Buckeye Game Fest 2014

We are still seeking organized event ideas for Buckeye Game Fest. Last year we had over 50 scheduled events, most of which were run by cabbies. This year, we'd like to fill the event space at our new venue, the Crowne Plaza Columbus North, with at least that many events... but we need your help figuring out what to schedule! Here's what we'd like to know:

  1. Your event ideas!
  2. Rough estimate of maximum attendance (by number of people) and total event time
  3. Whether you'd be willing to run the event yourself (it's okay if you're not!)
  4. If so, rough estimate of what day (Thursday through Sunday) and time you'd like to run the event

Please send an e-mail with all of the above to and we'll use this information to help compile the schedule. We are looking into the feasibility of having a proper program book printed this year, so the earlier we can lock down an events schedule, the better.

Board of Directors Meeting Saturday

The CABS Board of Directors will hold its monthly session at 6pm during the April 12 meeting. The primary agenda items are establishing the fee schedule for Buckeye Game Fest 2014, revisions of the club budget based on updated membership numbers, and the opening of discussion on an updated charter. All members are welcomed to sit on on board meetings to understand how the club functions.

International Tabletop Day: Mission Accomplished!

Our goal for the club was to play all 40 games that have been featured on Wil Wheaton's TableTop during our April 5 meeting on International Tabletop Day. The first game checked off the list was a 3-player game of Elder Sign (in which Nyarlathotep was banished by the investigators in short order) before 10am. The last game to complete at around 11:30pm was Dragon Age RPG, with Vice-President Jeff Wolfe as gamemaster. There were some close calls in between, including improvising a deck for 12 days from Dominion cards, but our goal was accomplished! Many thanks to all of you who showed up to help out, and thanks to Kingmakers for our successful cross-promotion.

Tabletop Day is This Saturday!

We only have a few days until International Tabletop Day this weekend. Our goal is to play every game that's been featured on Tabletop during this meeting. But there are a few games we need to play that aren't in our library and we need your help!

Please visit the BGG geeklist to see the current status of each game we need to play. If you own a game and can bring it on Saturday, please be sure to post. (If you don't have a BGG account, e-mailing the Board of Directors at is the next best thing.

Also, don't forget about our cross-promotion with Kingmakers Board Game Parlour in the Short North. Punch cards will be available at both Kingmakers and CABS on April 5. Visit Kingmakers on April 5 for one punch, then visit CABS and play a game featured on Tabletop for the other punch. Then, on a later visit, you can present your double-punched card at CABS for a free game, and at Kingmakers to waive their $5 library fee for up to two people.

A note from the President

MOSSL is having another meeting this Friday night, which means we will need help to reset the tables and chairs Saturday morning. Since Saturday is International Tabletop Day, we would like to put a little more effort making the place presentable, so we will also be moving some boxes around.

If you can, we'd like some volunteers to show up early and help out. Nothing brutal, the heaviest things will probably be the orange chairs. I'll be getting there at 8:30AM, anytime around then would be a great help. We'd want everything done by10AM. As a bribe I'll be bringing doughnuts for those who help.

Hope to see you Saturday!

--Pete Stein, President
